Meet Brandy! She joined us in Mason City to help with the PIT Census. We sat down with her to learn more about her and her experience volunteering with Friends of the Family.
Why did you choose to volunteer for FOF, and what makes you to continue to volunteer?
I first learned about FOF when someone reached out to ask if I would be interested in volunteering for the PIT Census. Although I had always wanted to become more involved in volunteer work, I hadn’t yet made the time to do so—this opportunity arrived at the perfect moment.
I continue to volunteer with FOF because their mission strongly aligns with my personal values. I genuinely enjoy connecting with members of the community and appreciate the meaningful chance to help provide resources to individuals who need support.
Since volunteering with FOF what have you learned about their services or homelessness, domestic violence, and victims of crime?
One of the most impactful things I’ve learned is how deeply FOF cares about its clients and the community. Every staff member and volunteer I’ve interacted with is truly dedicated to their work and to advancing FOF’s mission.
I’ve also become more aware of the reality of need within my own community. Before volunteering, I simply didn’t realize how many individuals around me were experiencing circumstances that require services like those FOF provides.
What would you share with someone considering volunteering with FOF?
My advice is simple: go for it. Volunteering with FOF is an incredibly rewarding experience. It opens your eyes to what is happening within your own community and gives you the chance to be part of meaningful support for those who need it most.
