Point-in-Time (PIT) Census: Counting Our Neighbors, Strengthening Our Community
Each year, Friends of the Family leads the Point-in-Time (PIT) Census, a nationwide effort to count individuals and families experiencing homelessness on a single night. This data plays a critical role in shaping funding, services, and housing solutions, both locally and across the country.
This year, our PIT Census will take place on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, from 6:00 PM to 12:00 AM. During this time, trained teams will be out in communities across Northeast and North Central Iowa, connecting with people where they are and ensuring their experiences are counted and respected.
The PIT Census is more than a count. It’s a moment of connection. It helps paint an accurate picture of homelessness in our region, strengthens our ability to advocate for resources, and ensures our communities are seen and supported.
Get Involved: Volunteer Opportunities Available
We are currently seeking volunteers to support this important effort. Whether you’re interested in assisting with outreach teams, logistics, or support roles, there are multiple ways to get involved with no prior experience required. All volunteers will receive training and guidance (the night of) to ensure a safe and meaningful experience.
Your time can make a real difference. Together, we can help ensure that everyone counts and Everyone Has a Home. Scan the QR code or click the image below to get involved with PIT Census!
