Job Summary: Provide transportation as needed to clients currently in or preparing to access Friends of the Family’s emergency shelter program.

Crisis Services Functions:

  1. Exhibit a belief in non-violence and a willingness to advocate on behalf of victims and their children who are affected by rape, sexual assault or domestic violence in a non-discriminating manner.
  2. Uphold the belief that quality client services are the top priority.  
  3. Maintain current understanding and knowledge of sexual assault and domestic violence issues including Iowa Code providing comprehensive support and advocacy services to the fullest extent of the law.
  4. Maintain up to date familiarity with agency policy and procedures in order to exercise good judgment in various situations.
  5. Comply with agency policies and procedures.

Duties specific Transportation Volunteer:

  1. Provide transportation to Friends of the Family clients. Transportation requested may include, but is not limited to, the following:
  1. Bringing clients to shelter at time of entry
  2. Taking clients to their next destination at time of exit.
  3. Taking clients to and from court proceedings.
  4. Taking clients to and from DMV, Social Security Office, etc to acquire personal identification.
  5. Taking clients to and from medical appointments, landlord meetings, and other personal appointments.

Position Qualifications:

  1. Complete online 20-hour Victim Counselor Training.
  2. Must have own vehicle to transport clients.
  3. Must have a valid driver’s license and insurance.
  4. Ability to pass law enforcement screening and possess clean personal history regarding child endangerment.
