The Dubuque Office - June 2022
In Friends of the Family's Dubuque office there are two programs specified to assist victims of domestic violence. Our Crime Victim's Assistance Division (CVAD) programming is a short term program (1-3 months) and our Safely Home programming is a longer term program (up to 2 years). Each program comes with its own unique guidelines for individuals to qualify. The Dubuque office partners with many community agencies to best serve our client. Some of these partners include the YWCA Domestic Violence Shelter, Resources Unite, and Waypoint.
Our Dubuque office has had many successes, including establishing three Transitional Housing units with a fourth one coming in July. Between both of the programs in Dubuque, multiple individuals have successfully exited into safe housing and are able to self-sustain rental payments. With that being said, one of our biggest challenges in the Dubuque office is funding. At the beginning of 2022, one of our biggest funding streams was lost and directly impacted our ability to serve victims finding safe housing when fleeing domestic violence situations.
Some of the upcoming events in our community include the YWCA Domestic Violence Shelter's Glimmer of Hope (October 27th), the Mellon Sister's Race (October), and a weekly support group at Waypoint on Monday's from 1 PM - 2:30 PM.
